The story
Discover Yamunotri
Yamunotri sits at 3,293 metres in a narrow gorge at the head of the Yamuna valley, the westernmost of the Uttarakhand Char Dham and, for most travelers, the shortest final trek of the four. The road climbs from Barkot to Janki Chatti, where the motorable road ends; from there the temple is a further trek of around 6 km on foot, pony, palki or doli. There is no helicopter service here — the trek, however you cover it, is the only way in. Kharsali, a quieter village near Janki Chatti and the winter seat of the goddess Yamuna, makes a good base or a stop on the way up.
