Auli is a ridge of open slopes and meadow above Joshimath, reached by road or by a long ropeway ride — one of Asia's longer cable-car runs. In winter it's India's most established ski slope, with views toward Nanda Devi and the surrounding peaks on a clear day. Come summer, the snow gives way to Auli Bugyal's meadow and a quieter, greener character. Most travelers base themselves in Joshimath and treat Auli as a day up and back rather than an overnight stay.
