Naldehra centres on a wide, largely treeless meadow ringed by deodar forest, about 22 km from Shimla. Viceroy Lord Curzon is widely credited with laying out its golf course in 1905 after visiting the site — one of the earliest hill-station golf courses in North India, though not India's oldest overall (that distinction belongs to Kolkata's Royal Calcutta Golf Club, founded in 1829). Local folklore, recorded by the district's own tourism office, attributes the meadow's treeless character to a mythical battle between two local deities. Most visits are still a half-day or day trip from Shimla, though a resort at Naldehra itself now offers a genuine overnight base.
