Hemkund Sahib is the world's highest Gurudwara, set on the shore of a glacial lake at 4,329 metres and ringed by seven Himalayan peaks. The pilgrimage shares its access route with the Valley of Flowers: both are reached via Govindghat, the road head on the Joshimath–Badrinath highway, and Ghangaria, the shared overnight base where no accommodation exists at either destination itself. From Ghangaria, Hemkund Sahib is a steep, roughly 6 km climb — a same-day round trip, since no stay is possible at the shrine. Many travelers combine a visit here with the separate Valley of Flowers trek, based from the same village.
